Shades of Green celebrates the life and music of St. Louis jazz icon Grant Green, one of the most distinctive guitar voices in jazz history. Born in St. Louis in 1935, Green began playing professionally as a teenager in local clubs, drawing deeply from gospel, blues, and swing. In the early 1960s, he became a cornerstone of the Blue Note Records roster, recording more than 30 albums as a leader and appearing on countless others with greats like Herbie Hancock, Lou Donaldson, and Lee Morgan. His soulful, single-note lines and deep rhythmic feel influenced generations of guitarists and earned him a lasting place in the jazz canon.
The Joe Park Quintet—featuring guitarist Joe Park, Bob Row on organ, Tom Rickard on vibraphone and piano, Ben Coan on bass, and Drew Weiss on drums—brings Green’s legacy to life with fresh interpretations of his most beloved tunes. Together, they channel the swing, groove, and unmistakable soul that defined Green’s music.
