Shackleton P1722 is back and ready for action. It has been just over 2 months since she last felt the breeze flow through her radiators as she lights up her 4 incredibly powerful Rolls Royce/Griffon contra-rotating
twin prop engines. there is no other sound like it. Guaranteed to make your hair stand on end and it will blow your mind when the throttles of this iconic lady take her 4 engines to over 2500rpm.
Yes indeed our next ground run is almost upon us. please diarise Saturday the 27th July at Ysterplaat air force base.
This event once again will be hosted by the "Friends of the SAAF museum". We are the passionate volunteers who run the Air Force Museum every Saturday. This really is a spectacular moment for all of us and missing out on this is something I would NOT recommend so fill in that diary of yours with a block booking for the morning.
If the weather plays ball, it's going to be a superb morning for everyone. We have over 4000m2 of hangars and halls with magnificent aircraft and other displays available to get up close and personal with. Get to feel what it is like to be a pilot or a crew member and chat with our passionate volunteers who take care of these historical aircraft.
There will be plenty of other activities going on before and after the Ground Run. For the kids, jumping castles, face painting and tattoo's galore. For a "Bucket list" tick, this is also high up there on the "to do list". Also for the Mom's and Dad's, we will have our loyal stakeholders, Stettyn Family Vineyards with their award winning wines and our amazing "Shackleton Breweries" with their amazing craft beer and Vodka Ice Tea all on tap. Our world famous German made boerewors rolls, delicious hamburgers and a few other food vendors (halaal too) will be there and as we are in winter, some really good coffee, from Latte's to Cappuccinos, hot chocolate and all the rest will be there to entertain your taste buds. Yes WE DO HAVE CARD FACILITIES so no need to worry if you don't have cash on hand.
All we ask is for a R50 per head (from ages 10 and up) the donation goes towards the upkeep of our Grand Old Lady 1722. She loves her afgas and needs it in large quantities for each Ground Run. Please support us, the volunteers so we can keep the history of the Air Force and our heritage alive. Without you, the visitors, this would not be possible.
One important thing. Cape Town is notorious for not getting anywhere on time. ? ? ?.
We need everyone to be at the museum by 9:30 am at latest please. ?. You will be met by our parking attendants who will show you where to park and then to show you where the entrance to the museum is.
I think I have covered everything but if you need any further information or have questions, please either ask here on this post or you can contact Norman on 083 698 1943, Greg on 083 247 2149 or myself on 082 922 7099.
We look forward to welcoming all of you from Cape Town and surrounding area's to our "Hidden Gem" museum at the SAAF Air Force Base at Ysterplaat. Piet Grobler street. Just google map us if you not sure where we are. It will take you right to the base's main entrance gate.
Keep well and stay safe. See you on the 27th of July. Just under 3 weeks away.
