Fusing vintage sounds with a contemporary attitude, Sgt. Hulka is a force that commands your attention. The two-time WAM Song The Year nominee (’23 & ’24) and WAM award nominee (best keys/synth player ’23) has blended her love of soul and blues into a unique blend of impressive piano chops and badass vocals.
This September, Sgt. Hulka is going on tour for the first time with her GRAND PIANO!
She is driving it halfway up the WA coast for a series of shows in the Ningaloo region (Solo) and then returning to Perth for a band show at Rodney's Bait and Tackle!
If you love Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Tina Turner and watching a 5ft powerhouse of woman shred on the keys you will love Sgt. Hulka!
A little more about Sgt. Hulka....
As a young lass, Sgt. Hulka (aka Kirsty Hulka) studied classical piano for a long time. Her piano teacher called her a thumper because she 'thumped' every song. Fast forward to her teenage years and her dad started taking her to local blues shows in Fremantle. She was in awe! Halfway through studying classical piano at UWA, she realised she wasn't any good at Western Art Music and taught herself how to play blues. She played in many original bands around Perth and after a while decided to go out on her own as Sgt. Hulka - a nickname that was given to her in high school by a maths teacher from the 1980's Stripes.
Her band grew and she continues to push the boundaries of genre and style. Sgt. Hulka's songwriting flows in the realms of soul and blues, yet her hooks and melodies are reflective of the perfect pop earworm.
Branded with sparkles and charisma, Sgt. Hulka and always delivers an exceptional performance
