Purpose of CE:

Dental fads are trends or practices related to oral health that gain popularity quickly but may lack scientific evidence or may even be harmful. Some common dental fads include: Oral and facial piercings, and gauges, charcoal whitening, oil pulling, do it yourself (DIY) braces, DIY whitening, Non-FDA Approved Whitening Products, fasting for oral health, and mouth taping.

CE Course Objectives:

i. Understand the historical and cultural context of dental fads

ii. Evaluate the scientific basis of popular dental fads

iii. Recognize potential risks and consequences associated with dental fads

iv. Develop strategies for educating patients about dental fads

Speaker: Dr. Juan Packer, DMD, AGPR

BIO:

Dr. Juan Packer is a distinguished dentist with a unique blend of expertise in Advanced General Practice Residency (AGPR) and a commendable history of military service. His journey is marked by a commitment to excellence, compassionate patient care, and a strong sense of duty.

Dr. Packer developed an early interest in healthcare and service to others. After completing his undergraduate studies, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry, driven by a passion for improving oral health and enhancing the smiles of his community.

Upon earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Mississippi School Of Dentistry, Dr. Packer chose to answer the call to serve his country. Commissioned as a dental officer in the US Air Force, he brought his skills and dedication to a new arena. His military service not only allowed him to provide dental care to service members but also afforded him the opportunity to contribute to underserved populations throughout the Indian Health Service.
