About this Event
People of all abilities, kinds, genders, sexualities, locations, and whatever get it on. But the issue is, sex in the media is oriented around and largely represented by able-bodied, cis, skinny, white folks. Which just isn’t reflective of our community and our lives! Like the community-based education-seeking pleasure-focused shop we are, we actively want to talk about the different ways folks seek pleasure and how to educate others about it.
Come back on Saturday, Jan 25 for a deeper dive class - Sex Ed and Developmental Disability: Education, Opportunity and Advocacy.
Tickets are sliding scale, but we will not turn anyone away for lack of funds. Email [email protected] to request discounted/free tickets.
ABOUT OUR AUTHOR: Katie is an educator, author, and advocate for people with disabilities. She was a Special Education and Health teacher in St. Paul, Minnesota for 12 years and has extensive experience in curriculum writing and training on relationships and sexuality education for people with disabilities and their support systems.
ABOUT THE BOOK: This book acts as a manual to help educators comfortably and knowledgeably deliver lessons in comprehensive sex education to young people with developmental disabilities in the context of special education. Drawing on firsthand experience and real-world examples, the first half provides background material and tools for how to effectively partner with parents. The second half breaks down the how-tos of implementing a successful sex education program and troubleshoots tricky situations that might come up for a variety of students.
