Welcome to our sewing class where you'll learn to work wonders with stretchy fabric! In this session, we'll be focusing on creating stylish leggings using the renowned Helen's Closet Avery Leggings sewing pattern.
Whether you prefer high-rise or mid-rise, you'll leave with a pair that fits you like a dream.
Saturday 11th May - 9:30am - 4:00pm
Leggings are the ultimate layering essential for any handmade wardrobe. They're perfect for pairing under dresses with boots or simply for lounging around in cosy comfort.
During our one-day workshop, you'll craft your very own pair of leggings. And if you're efficient and comfortable with jersey fabric, you might even have time to cut out a second pair using our spacious cutting tables, setting you up for your next sewing project!
Don't miss this chance to elevate your sewing skills and add a timeless staple to your wardrobe. Book your spot now and get ready to stitch up some style!
Explore the simplicity of crafting classic, everyday leggings with unique features that elevate them. With no outer leg seam, enjoy a smooth leg finish. The addition of a crotch gusset enhances mobility and reduces bulkiness in seams.
A double-layer waistband, including enclosed and stabilised elastic, ensures optimal tummy support and prevents slipping.
You can choose between a classic or ultra-high waist with extra-long legs for versatile wear anywhere. These leggings promise comfort and style as a must-have wardrobe staple.
You will learn:
Tips for cutting out and finding the grain of the fabric and direction of stretch
Understanding the term 'negative ease' and how to choose your correct size
How to use a pattern to cut out your fabric
How to sew the garment together using a regular sewing machine - type of stitches and needle
How to sew a crotch gusset
How to sew with elastic
How to get a neat clean finish on the waistband of your leggings
During this one day workshop you will make one pair of leggings. However, if you work efficiently and are used to handling jersey fabric, you may get time to cut out a second pair of leggings using our large cutting tables. This will help you to prepare for your next pair of this classic wardrobe staple.
What's included:
20% discount on supplies required for the workshop (fabric & notions)
10% off any other fabrics purchased on the day of your course
Your very own A0 print out of Helen's Closet Avery Leggings PDF Sewing Pattern and instructions emailed to you. Printed instructions will be available to use as reference during the course.
Use of all machines, tools and equipment
Tea/coffee and biscuits (please bring a packed lunch or visit one of the lovely local cafes for your 30 min lunch break)
FABRIC
1.2m of fabric for up to US size 22 OR 1.4m of fabric for up to US size 34
Fabric must be a four-way stretch knit with at least 70% stretch horizontally and vertically
Look for modal, nylon spandex, cotton spandex, bamboo jersey, or rayon jersey. For leggings that aren’t intended to be layered, make sure to find a fabric that is 100% opaque. Look for ‘performance jersey’, ‘technical fabric’, ‘activewear knits’ or ‘dancewear’ when shopping.
A matching thread
1m of 1/2"/13mm wide elastic
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us, and a member of the team will be happy to help you.
* Please note - we would recommend you pre-wash all knit fabrics prior to attending the workshop! *
