About this Event
This course is designed for beginners who have never used a sewing machine, to explore the possibilities of how useful the skills would be for a broad range of tasks for example alterations, repairs etc. It will provide ’hands on’ skills and knowledge regarding the correct use and maintenance of the sewing machine. By the end of the course, you will be able to operate a sewing machine and practice various stitches.
Specific skills include:
- Parts, functions and use of sewing machine;
- Practice various stitches;
- Maintaining your machines;
- Seams and seam finishes;
- Hem finishes.
Please bring to the class:
- Tape measure/measuring tape – not essential for this class
- Scrap fabrics/old sheet or pillow cases or old clothes. If you don’t have any we will share!
- Scissors – paper and fabric (invest in a good fabric scissors)
- Dressmaking pins
- Needle and thread
- Pen/Pencil
- Rubber
- Ruler
- Note pad
