Sewing | Machine Sewing For BeginnersJoin Jill, at Squirrel at Wellsborough for this beginners machine sewing workshop!
Whether you feel excited or daunted by the thought of getting to know your sewing machine, we are here to help!
Jill will walk you ‘step-by-step” through setting up & using your sewing machine.
If you are new to machine sewing or looking to re-start after some time away from your machine, this workshop will take you through the basics, build up your confidence & enable you to sew with confidence!
During the workshop you will:
Set up your sewing machine – including winding, then inserting a bobbin & threading your machine
Select a stitch, learn about tension, use a needle threader, start to sew.. and stop!
Learn about reverse stitching, changing direction and following a seam.
Learn about straight & curved seams, sewing a basting stitch and sewing a zigzag stitch
Learn about basic trouble shooting skills, including changing a needle & changing feet
Make yourself a pin cushion to practice your new skills!
Have support on hand to guide you at each step!
This workshop is suitable for guests who are 18 or over.
The workshop is for a maximum of 4 guests, meaning that you will have the hands on support you need: whilst sharing hints & tips with others
Please note that during this workshop you’ll be working with sharp scissors, pins, and an electric sewing machine!
What to bring with you
A sewing machine (If you don’t have a sewing machine but would like to have a go, please do let us know so that we can supply you with a machine for the workshop)
Your sewing machine manual
One fat quarter – quilting cotton is ideal to practice with, and make into a pin cushion
