Course held over 4 Wednesday evenings.Bring along items of clothing that you wish to learn how to alter to fit you better.
Your tutor, a qualified tailor, will select some of the student's items and use them to demonstrate how you can make your own alterations.
You’ll discover the skills of doing this with both the use of hand sewing and using a sewing machine. You’ll consider what it means for clothing to be well fitting and you’ll have a chance to do some alterations on your own items.
The kinds of alterations that will be covered in this 4-week course are:
*lengthening or shortening trousers
*altering a jacket
*taking in or letting out trousers
*altering skirts and dresses
Bring along your items of clothing as well as a notebook and pen and your sewing kit (scissors, sewing needles, thread to match your garment, pins, tape measure, tailor's chalk or similar). You will need a Bernina bobbin as well, this can be purchased from the CEC office on the day for $5.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Discuss what makes clothes well-fitting
- Discover how to measure when altering clothes
- Observe a range of alterations being made
- Perform some basic clothing alterations
- Understand the general principles of alteration
