Learn to sew your own swimwear!In this workshop at Saskatoon Makerspace, students will learn the basics of sewing and create their own swimwear.
The class will cover topics such as selecting and cutting fabric, seam finishing techniques, strap construction and installation, and finishing. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, students will create a unique and functional clothing item that is tailored to fit them.
Students must bring their own sewing machine, basic supplies (shears, pins, bobbins, thread, etc.), and have knowledge of basic stitch and threading, as well as of your machine's operation. If you are unfamiliar with this, you can book an additional 30 minutes of teaching time prior to the class for $10. Please contact us for this.
By the end of the class, students will have an introductory understanding of swimwear construction and will have created a swimsuit just for them.
Students may choose their own pattern, either a bikini or a one piece! You can find free patterns for tops here , as well as some paid patterns of a variety of different swimwear. You may have any pattern of your chosing! If it is a PDF pattern, we will contact all students ahead of class to print and assemble their paterns before class start for them!
Materials required…
Please bring 1 - 1.5 yards of fabric depending on your body size and fit preferences. Suitable fabrics would be polyester, nylon, tricot, spandex, neoprene, and more. If you have questions about chosing a fabric, or would like resources on where to purchase, contact us!
Please bring thread, needles, bobbin, and basic sewing supplies.
You can also bring a swimsuit you like the fit of, rather than a pattern, and we can assist you in making a copy!
