About this Event
In this workshop at Saskatoon Makerspace, students will learn the basics of sewing and create their own pair of shorts with an elastic waistband.
The class will cover topics such as selecting and cutting fabric, seam finishing techniques, waistband construction and installation, and finishing. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, students will create a unique and functional clothing item that is tailored to fit them.
Students must bring their own sewing machine, basic supplies (shears, pins, bobbins, thread, etc.), and have knowledge of basic stitch and threading, as well as of your machine's operation. If you are unfamiliar with this, you can book an additional 30 minutes of teaching time prior to the class for $10. Please contact us for this.
By the end of the class, students will have an introductory understanding of clothing construction and will have created a clothing item just for them.
Materials required…
Please bring 1.5 - 2 metres of fabric depending on your body size and fit preferences. Suitable fabrics would be linen, cotton jersey, sweatshirt fabric, thin corduroy, etc. Fabric can have some stretch to it but it is not required.
Please bring thread, needles, bobbin, and basic sewing supplies.
Optional: you can bring a pair of shorts that you currently own and like the fit of. We can use these to help make a new pair that will fit you perfect!
If you have any questions regarding fabric selection, please contact us.
***these will be a looser fit pair of shorts with an elastic waistband. Think classic pyjama shorts meet cute linen shorts :)
The fabric you choose will impact how they look.
Standard cancellation policy applies to all participants.
