About this Event

Sew & Wrap: Furoshiki-Style Fabric Gift Wrap Workshop

So, you can thread your machine and sew a straight line… what’s next?

As part of The ReDress Hub’s Beginner Series, this fun and practical workshop is the perfect next step to build your sewing confidence. In just two hours, you’ll create a beautiful double-sided, reusable Furoshiki-style fabric gift wrap—a stylish and sustainable alternative to single-use paper.

Led by Kirsty Maté from ReTh!nk Studio, you’ll learn how to:

  • Sew a neat seam and topstitch for a professional finish
  • Cut and assemble a simple pattern
  • Perfect a tidy corner seam
  • Wrap gifts beautifully using the Japanese Furoshiki technique—it’s easier than you think!

This workshop is ideal for beginners who can use a sewing machine and want to practice their skills. It’s also perfect for anyone interested in creative, eco-friendly gift wrapping - especially useful over Christmas!

Join us for a relaxed, hands-on session and leave with new sewing skills and a gorgeous reusable wrap ready for your next gift-giving occasion.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is ideal for beginners (adults and children over 12) who know how to use a sewing machine.

What do I bring?

All materials and tools are supplied.

While we will have a selection of upcycled fabrics for you to choose from, you may choose to bring in your own upcycled fabrics to use. Ideally suited are lightweight fabrics (polycotton bed linen is ideal), however heavy twills or cottons and knitted fabrics are not suitable. Satin materials are good but can be difficult to sew with, especially for beginners.

You will need at a minimum 2 x pieces of 65x65cm fabrics in contrasting patterns/styles to make a medium-sized gift wrap.

The ReDress Hub has its own excellent sewing machines for you to use but if you'd prefer to bring in your own, please feel free! However please also make sure you know how to use it!

If you haven't used a sewing machine before please book into one of The ReDress Hub's Understanding your Sewing Machine free workshops. Details here: Understanding your Sewing Machine
