The Seven Hills Chamber Music Festival returns for its fifth season with four unique concerts across the Hill City. Each program offers a different lens on the chamber music tradition — inviting audiences into focused worlds of Classical composition ranging from bold basslines to nocturnal lyricism.
SHCMF 2025:
August 13th — Opening Night!
The festival opens with a celebration of some of chamber music’s lowest voices including double bass and baritone voice. With works by Antonín Dvořák Missy Mazzoli Arvo Pärt and more this program brings the low register into the forefront.

August 17th — The Starry Dynamo
Taking its name from our featured piece by William Susman (titled after a line in Allen Ginsberg’s Howl) this evening features a selection of vibrant chamber works. J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Saint-Saëns’s sparkling Septet for Piano Trumpet & Strings round out a program that shifts between contemplation and radiance.

August 20th — Sounds of the Hill City
In a brand-new collaboration with the Lynchburg Museum this interdisciplinary concert blends performance with storytelling. Held in the museum’s historic main gallery on Court Street “Sounds of the Hill City” will bring local artifacts and hidden histories to life through music. Repertoire includes Dvořák’s “American” String Quartet Reena Esmail’s luminous Nadiya for flute and viola and the delightfully quirky Stir Crazy by Carlos Simon.

August 23rd — A Little Night Music
The season closes with a fresh look at classical music's beloved genre of “night music.” With selections from Mozart (the iconic Eine kleine Nachtmusik of course!) Beethoven and William Susman this program blends elegance with restlessness offering a full arc from twilight to dream.
