Oh, the THINKS you can THINK! But please don’t think this show is only for kids, it’s a musical perfect for the entire family! And one very dear to our hearts!
Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit his beloved characters.
Originally produced by One More Productions in 2008, Seussical, weaves a beautiful story of friendship, loyalty, and love and teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs. We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring the show back to life on The GEM stage 16 years later for a whole new generation to fall in love with!
Come celebrate a world of color, sound, and individuality as we bring this story to life and right of the page!
Open Auditions will be held over the course of two nights:
July 8th and 9th
YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT BOTH CALLS
OPEN VOCAL CALL Monday, July 8th
Doors will open at 6:30pm. Auditions begin at 7pm. First come first seen.
Accompanist will be provided. Be prepared to sing 16-32 measures. Please bring sheet music in the proper key, cut to 16-32 measures and in a 3-ring binder. Please no songs from the show.
You must have a headshot or current photo with resume.
DANCE CALL Tuesday, July 9th
Doors Will open at 6:30pm. Auditions begin at 7pm.
Be prepared to dance. Wear form fitting clothing that shows your body. Please be prepared with jazz shoes and character heels.
INVITED CALLBACKS Wednesday, July 10th
By invite only. Doors will open at 7:30pm. Callbacks begin at 8pm.

There is a stipend of $600.00
Rehearsals will be held Mondays – Thursdays 6pm to 11pm, Saturdays 10am – 6pm and some Sundays 12pm – 6pm.
Performances will run 8/22/24 – 9/29/24. Thursdays – Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
THE CAT IN THE HAT (Male, 18 - 40, Tenor/Baritone)
The essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. Is the host and emcee of the evening, playing many comic minor parts throughout the story, sometimes improvising with the audience, and a presence in almost every scene. Must move well and have great comedic timing.
HORTON (Male, 18 – 40, Tenor)
An elephant and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Gentle, big-hearted, appealing. He is very imaginative and believes in the world’s goodness. He is kind, loving and responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. Very authentic and caring.
GERTRUDE (Female, 18 – 40, Soprano with a STRONG Belt)
A bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Very self-conscious, shy, and nervous, silly, compassionate, and ridiculous. Is in love with Horton and does what she can to get his attention. She is a bit naïve at times, but always is a voice of reason. Must have incredible comedic timing and move well.
MAYOR (Male, 30 – 50, Tenor)
A Who and the Mayor of Whoville and JoJo’s Dad. He and his wife try hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. He may get aggravated with JoJo, but he loves him dearly and tries to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Funny, odd, and charming, must have great comedic timing.
THE MAYOR’S WIFE (Female, 30 – 50, Mezzo)
A Who and the Mayor’s Wife and JoJo’s Mom. Comedic timing is a must. Overbearing, overdramatic and always has a cocktail in her hand. A cross between Shannon Beador of OC Housewives and Patti LuPone.
WICKERSHAM BROTHERS (Males, 18 – 40, Tenor, Baritone & Bass)
Monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. Three badass men who get a kick out of teasing, playing pranks and making mischief, although often at others' expense. Rough, hard, and sexy. They side with the Sour Kangaroo in her campaign against Horton and cause more trouble for poor Horton. MUST BE STRONG DANCERS AND SINGERS
BIRD GIRLS (Females, 18 – 40, Soprano, Mezzo & Alto)
Female presenting. Sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. The popular girls in any school, a clique of pretty, self-centered "back up birds" who do whatever Mayzie does. They often act as storytellers, picking up where The Cat left off. A big presence throughout the show. Think Showgirls/Bette Midler’s back-up girls the Harlettes. MUST BE STRONG SINGERS AND DANCERS with impeccable timing.
SOUR KANGAROO (Female, Woman of Color, 18 – 60, Alto)
A kangaroo and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun. A true Diva by any means. Is the main antagonist and the cause of all of Horton’s trouble. Think Evilene from The Wiz – the true Queen of the Jungle!
GENERAL SCHMITZ (Male, 30 – 65, Baritone)
A Who and General who is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He’s over the top, bigger than life, and angry at the world. Must sing and move well. Comedic timing is a must.
