This November, we’re thrilled to announce a spectacular sideshow at the iconic Northcote Theatre featuring none other than Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 – a name that rings through the world of Afrobeat with electrifying energy and legendary rhythms. For those who might not know, Seun Kuti is the son of the legendary Fela Kuti, the pioneer of Afrobeat. Seun carries his father's torch with the powerhouse band, Egypt 80, creating a sound that's a vibrant mix of traditional African rhythms, jazz, and funk. This is the kind of music that gets your soul dancing and your heart racing – pure, unfiltered joy with a side of activism thrown in too.
This special side show will be the perfect warm up for SF, featuring music from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s highly anticipated new album, 'Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head)' - set to release on October 4 via Record Kicks. The album marks a significant milestone in Seun's career, following his Grammy-nominated release 'Black Times'.
Supporting Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 will be Melbourne’s own Afrobeat ambassadors, Alárìíiyá.
