About this Event
Gabrielle Clowdus, Ph.D., is the founder of Settled (www.settled.org), a non-profit seeking to “cultivate home with the homeless”. The team at Settled is made up of committed and curious families and individuals. They have developed their research-based approach to addressing homelessness through close relationships with the chronically homeless and those who serve them.
Settled exists to help churches develop permanent supportive tiny home villages, called Sacred Settlements, designed to address long-term homelessness. Each one is owned and operated by the worshiping community on their land with Settled by their side for the journey. Settled established the nation’s first Sacred Settlements in the Twin Cities metro under the land use provisions of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) to protect individuals, houses of worship, and other religious institutions from discrimination in zoning laws, and are looking to pilot their research-based model in a peer metro.
Gabrielle has recently participated in the Praxis Labs Non-Profit Accelerator (Link) and several individuals from Indianapolis Praxis Guild identified the opportunity to engage with Settled in the Indianapolis Metro Area. Gabrielle has agreed to visit Indianapolis to meet with stakeholders in early August. We are seeking to facilitate a visit that will effectively use her time and bring together church communities across Indianapolis and surrounding counties to discuss planting a local Sacred Settlement.
