About this Event
Sessions at Stained Glass is a monthly concert series from the music studio of Peter Smith. For vol.15, we will feature soulful tenor player and singer Paulie Cerra, ace guitarist RJ Root, groovy drummer Joel Zobrist, and Peter Smith (me!) on organ. We've been playing weekly in the studio for several weeks now, and it's been super fun for me to play with these guys and to get all this time at the master controls of the organ! We have a group text going that Paulie named "Jazzzz Peeeple," so that's our group's name for now. Joel grew up in Altadena but is a recent New Orleans transplant, so he brings a lot of that flavor to his playing. RJ is super in demand in Los Angeles across many styles, but his first love is Jazz. Paulie has worked with everyone: Keb Mo, Larry Carlton, Lucky Peterson, Rickey Lee Jones, Smokey Robinson, and on and on. His singing and saxophone playing are extremely soulful. This is a fun group, with a common goal to groove, swing and lay in the pocket.
There will be light refreshments served, free of charge.
Stained Glass Music Studio is located in the First Baptist Church of Pasadena. Parking meters are not enforced on Sunday. Alternately, you can park in the garage at 150 E. Holly Street 91101. You can park in any blank spot or any spot marked "First Baptist Church." Bring in your garage ticket for validation. Someone will meet you at the front door on Marengo and take you upstairs. Important*: there are two short flights from the second floor (8 steps each) up to the studio, which are unavoidable. There is no elevator access to the space itself.
