Each week nisha will guide a practice of yogic medicines and meditation supporting us in balancing the elements to ease our pain, awaken possibility, and rekindle our Elemental Joy.

With the intention of deepening QTBIPOC + BIPOC folks’ connection with ancestral medicines that work with the elements across our cultures, we will use yogic traditions as an entry point with practices of working with the subtle energy, chakras + micro charkas + channels, shat kriya, the yoga of sound and vibration (nada yoga) with beej mantra + pranayama (“breathwork”), and vipassana (meditative insight).

Yoga Asana (including Shat Kriya) 6:30pm to 7:20pm

Pranayama/Breathwork + Meditation 7:20pm to 8:00pm

(You are welcome to attend the full session or the 2nd half for meditation. If you are arriving between the two sections, please do so quietly + gently to support others’ practicing)

What to bring:

-Your own mat and/or towel to practice on (mats and cushions will NOT be provided)

-Folding chair if your access needs require not sitting on the ground

-Layers to stay warm as the sun sets

-As much of an open heart as you can (its okay if its just a crack open at the moment)

Accessibility:

-All abilities and mobility styles welcome!

-There is a sidewalk and grassy terrain, we will practice on the grass area about 10-15 feet from the pathway.

-Please note, there are NO chairs available, but there are several public cement table-benches that can be used to practice (both yoga asana and meditation), or if you are able to, you're welcome to bring a foldable "beach" chair if sitting on the ground is not accessible for you.

-nisha will offer variations and suggestions during the yoga asana portion, and is always ready to collaborate with you to support your different access needs.

About the Location

Colorado Lagoon is located on Tongva and Chumash Land in the area commonly known as Long Beach, California.

We will meet at the grassy patch by the public bathrooms by the table-benches and trees between brown and yellow signs and the play-structure.

Use this address as a pin: 5059 E Colorado St. Long Beach, CA 90814

Accessible by car with ample street parking, bike path, or public transit (Long Beach Transit Bus 151)

A Note on being “an Affinity Space”

The intention is for Queer + Trans communities of Colour and our BIPOC allies to have a space to gather and engage in healing practices together without having to navigate additional harm and triggers of racism in addition to homophobia and transphobia.

In recognizing that within BIPOC and QTBIPOC identities, oppressive systems affect us differently, and while we cannot fully prevent lateral racism, anti-Black racism, Anti-Indigenous racism, and Castism from being replicated, we ask all BIPOC folks attending this gathering to come with awareness of the privileges they carry, and an open heart to treat each other with the utmost kindness.

If you are NOT BIPOC we encourage you to DONATE through our website!
