Description
Exploring Our Personal Landscapes is a five-part creative art therapy series designed for local makers and creatives who want space to reflect, explore, and express themselves through art. Using the metaphor of different “landscapes” as our guiding theme, participants will journey through inner terrain such as memory, emotion, identity, and resilience using creative expression as a map.
Each session introduces a new landscape and a collection of art materials, allowing participants to explore meaning through drawing, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. You are welcome to bring materials from home, but everything you need will also be provided. There is no pressure to perform or share in any particular way. The only expectation is to show up as yourself.
These sessions are designed to go “only as deep as you are willing to swim back to the surface,” making this a safe and accessible introduction to therapeutic art-making.
What You’ll Experience
Guided art therapy-inspired creative exploration
Using landscape metaphors to reflect on self, story, and emotion
A variety of media including drawing, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media
Space for self-regulation, reflection, and creative healing
Supportive group sharing (optional and always at your own comfort level)

About the Instructor
Erika Johnson is an Art Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a BA in Art and Psychology from the University of Windsor and a Diploma in Art Therapy from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. She currently works with Mushkegowuk Council’s Youth Department and is actively expanding access to art therapy for both Mushkegowuk and local youth in Timmins.
Through her workshops, programs, and presentations, Erika explores how art and craft can be used as powerful tools for coping, self-discovery, and healing. Her approach is grounded in the belief that the ability to heal already exists within us, and that creativity is for everyone, regardless of experience.
