About this Event
Join us for our second “angelita vinyl” session: a listening party highlighting albums that feature traditionally classical or jazz instruments. For this session, we are celebrating the renowned jazz pianist and harpist Alice Coltrane with a listening session of her 1970 album, “Ptah the El Daoud.” This album is a masterpiece of spiritual jazz, transporting the listener to unique soundscapes crafted by Coltrane’s compositions. The record also features notable collaborations with Pharaoh Sanders (tenor sax, alto flute, and bells), Joe Henderson (tenor sax and alto flute), Ron Carter (bass), and Ben Riley (drums). For this album, we are very lucky to have Radha Botofasina (harpist, pianist, vocalist, and composer), one of Alice Coltrane’s former students, in conversation with us for the discussion and Q+A portion of the evening.
Learn more about Radha Botofasina and her work here.
Also if you’re new to Alice Coltrane and want to learn more, I highly recommend this video.
