Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Joy to the World! It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Ho, Ho, Ho!!! Over the next few weeks, these words will ring throughout our streets, shopping malls, and grocery stores; they will be sung by choirs, played by bands, and blasted from car radios. The message is clear: we are supposed to be happy during this season. But, what if we're not happy? What if we feel a little down, or find ourselves under the weight of something or somethings that keep us from being as "holly-jolly" as our culture expects us to be? Is there something wrong with us if we're not all tinsel and smiles?
The Service of the Longest Night takes place on, or close to, the longest night of the year. It's a time to gather with others and acknowledge that the holiday season can be difficult, as well as joyful. Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, stressed about the loss of a job, worried about the state of our community, country, or world, or just feeling down - for any reason at all - together, we will make a space for sadness and joy, comfort and grief, loss and gratitude. FUMC invites you to gather with us in the sanctuary on Sunday, December 21 at 4:00pm for a time of prayer, singing, and hope. All are welcome.
