NOTICE DATE CHANGEA Service of Light and Water in the manner
of the Taizé, France Community
Taizé worship is particularly attractive because at the heart of this approach to prayer, there is a faithful monastic community. Taizé is a small French village in the south of Burgundy where Brother Roger (1915-2005) founded a community in 1949 devoted to both prayer and living a parable of reconciliation within the church and the whole human family. The community is made up of religious brothers from all continents and major denominations who gather together three times a day, seven days a week, throughout the year to pray. Men and women of all ages, sorts, and conditions have been drawn into and continually are transformed by the setting of peaceful light, repetitive song and chant, scripture, and extended silence.
First UMC Franklin has adapted an approach to worship as set forth by the historically Christian community at Taizé. Our offering of A Service of Light and Water on the first Sunday of each month is intended to broaden the opportunities for worship in this sacred place and enhance the spiritual journey of those who come and go from our doors. All are invited to join us for the journey.
"Prayer is a serene force at work within human beings, stirring them up, transforming them ... " --Brother Roger of Taizé
