Messiah continues its observance of Lent with midweek Services of Prayer; identical services will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. The 7:00 pm service is scheduled to be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/messiahgr, our website and our Facebook page. We continue our Lenten sermon series, which is based on the ancient hymn “O Love, How Deep” (Lutheran Service Book 544), by focusing on “The Robe of Human Frame”:
He sent no angel to our race,
Of higher or of lower place,
But wore the robe of human frame,
And to this world Himself He came.
Why did Jesus have to come among us as a human being? Why didn’t He come as an angel or some other kind of being that is stronger and more powerful than us? While angels may be a source of endless fascination to the Christian and to the world, they have no power to save us. In this week’s sermon, we will hear why taking on the “robe of [our] human frame” was not only a good idea but also necessary for our salvation. Angels are wonderful, but they are not Jesus. He came as one of us so that He could redeem us as His own. (Psalm 104: 1-10, 33-35; Micah 5:2-5a; Hebrews 1; Mark 14:12-31)
