Hosted by DeSoto State Park. The Serious Skills series is a variety of classes and workshops that provide opportunities to discover a hidden talent or learn a new skill for personal enrichment. Classes are open to local residents, overnight guests and park visitors.
Ethnobotany explores the relationship between people and plants, tracing how different cultures have historically used native plants for healing and daily life. Salve-making, a tradition rooted in this rich history, involves crafting soothing remedies from these plants, blending ancient knowledge with modern practices to create natural solutions for wellness.
Learn some the very basics of making healing salves with native plants in our hands-on workshop. Learn to create some soothing salves from local herbs, discover their healing properties, and make a few salves to take home. No experience required—just bring your curiosity and leave with new skills and your own homemade remedies!
