Serious Skills Series: Mojo Bag WorkshopHosted by DeSoto State Park & Little River Arts Council
The Serious Skills series is a variety of classes and workshops that provide opportunities to discover a hidden talent or learn a new skill for personal enrichment. Classes are open to local residents, overnight guests and park visitors.
Mojo bags have their roots in West African traditions and were carried to this country by enslaved people who preserved and passed down the practice through generations. Traditionally adorned with charms and talismans, mojo bags are used to attract luck, love, health, and protection. Each bag is finished with strips that are fingerwoven entirely by hand—each strip made from several strands carefully worked together, a process that takes time, patience, and skill, honoring the tradition of intentional, handmade creation.
Start the new year by creating your own mojo bag with Southeastern fingerweaver Keena Graham. In this hands-on workshop, all materials are provided to craft one medium-sized mojo bag, along with charms for adornment and a selection of herbs and flowers to make sachets for your mojo. So, let’s get your mojo working for you in 2026!
