Friday, September 19, 2025 at 7pm (at Grace UMC – Wilmington) LIVE AND LIVESTREAMED
FLUTE is in the spotlight in this program of works by Baroque giants, Handel and Telemann, as well as a flute sonata by Anna Bon de Venezia and a trio sonata by German flutist and flute maker, Johann Joachim Quantz. This program highlights the flute in both ensemble and solo settings. A contrasting selection by Handel for violin and continuo offers a splash of string timbre to the program. Eileen Grycky, Serafin flutist since 2019, has recorded and performed with the noted period instrument ensemble, Brandywine Baroque, and performed with Dorian Baroque in New York City. She founded and performs with Tiger Lily Trio and has been recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award at University of Delaware. Also performing are the stunning Juilliard-trained harpsichordist, Gabriel Benton, the rising star South African cellist, Jacques-Pierre Malan, and noted laureate of the chamber music world, Kate Ransom (founding member of the internationally acclaimed Alexander String Quartet, and artistic director of Serafin Ensemble). The Telemann Concerto will be supported by a superb ensemble of Serafin guest colleagues: Julianne Murphy and Lionel Thomas (violin) and Ovidiu Marinescu (cello).
Artists: Eileen Grycky, flute; Kate Ransom, violin; Jacques-Pierre Malan, cello; Gabriel Benton, harpsichord, Julianne Murphy and Lionel Thomas, guest violinists; Ovidiu Marinescu, guest cellist.
