About this Event
Saints and singers
Find your (siging!) voice at the Feminist Movie Monday (FMM) September special.
There’ll be a classic film, singing and a speaker in The Gregson’s Secret Cinema. Starting with an intro from Dr Rachael Eastham, longtime FMM organiser, enthused singer and researcher who’s work explores the benefits of singing for health, wellbeing and liberation!
Rachael will introduce us to Karafun and the (optional!) singalong karaoke format, and together we’ll watch a 1992 classic about a nightclub singer forced to take refuge from the mob in a convent. More optional singing follows the screening if you’re up for it but there’s no pressure, no singing experience is required and everyone’s welcome.
"We did it! We actually sang a chord!"
Extra info:
This is a new format with a couple of extra elements inspired by feedback we’ve gathered from audiences over the years.
Karafun’s karaoke softwear was recently used to joyous effect at a fundraiser for the Gregson’s own Breath of Fresh Air Choir - a choir for people with lung conditions like asthma and COPD.
At our September Special we’ll intro the Hibernation Season which will take us through to the end of 2025.
Please note our screenings will have closed captions when possible.
The event is free to attend but if you would like to contribute a cash donation towards the running costs of Feminist Movie Monday there will be an opportunity on the night. We ask everyone in attendance to respect one another, the organisers, and the Gregson Centre volunteers.
