Sarah DeLano will speak about the importance of urban natural spaces as they relate to food systems and environmental and social equity. She will discuss two recent research projects she has been involved in: An urban berry picking project with the Métis Nation of Alberta Environment Department and a community-based research project completed at the U of A, and in collaboration with the Multicultural Family Resource Society. The latter involved the creation of a place-based recipe book that features produce we can grow and forage right here in Edmonton.
Sarah DeLano is a mother, teacher, berry picker and researcher. She is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta with deep ancestral roots in the City of Edmonton, where she resides. Her research focuses on urban greenspace and community building; on the land, edible plants, and people of Edmonton and the connections that bind them together.
