Mike Murray, Manager and Resident Astronomer of the Delta
College Planetarium, examines the Sun-Earth connection of the Aurora Borealis, commonly called the “Northern Lights,” and why our magnetic field is key in creating this mysterious phenomenon. He’ll also look at the stories and folklore of the aurora, from Canada and Scandinavia to the southern hemisphere where they are known as the Aurora Australis. Mike also hosts the Backyard Astronomer program on NPR, where he talks about what’s visible in the night sky, especially those objects visible without a telescope. Join us for this fascinating deep dive into the mysteries of the Aurora.
