Come celebrate with us at the opening event for Monica Crawford’s feature show on September’s first Friday! We are winding down for summer and what better way to do so than with Monica’s beautiful nature inspired pieces.Monica Crawford is a self-taught painter, learning skills via online tutorials and regular practice. She paints with acrylic and makes mixed media pieces on canvas by combining collage with acrylic paints. As a member of ZAAP, she exhibit her artwork monthly at the ZAAP Gallery in Zanesville and was the featured artist there in May 2023 and in May 2024. She has also shown her work in other regional shows in conjunction the SEOWS (Southeast Ohio Water Media Society).
In 2024, she was pleased to receive a Bucci Deitz Artist’s Award from the Ronna Bucci and Dr. Charles Dietz Endowment Fund of the Muskingum County Community Foundation (MCCF). Her foray into creating larger artworks was a direct result of this award, and is evident in her September 2025 ZAAP featured artist show.
Monica is heavily influenced by her affinity for the natural world: the shapes, colors, and patterns of landscapes, plants, trees, flowers, birds, and fish. She sometimes incorporates an abstract or whimsical interpretation of these subjects either as a primary subject or as background elements. She is also fascinated by the way that light filters through woodland environments or reflects from surfaces. Her work is intended to be a feeling investigation of our deep connection to nature.
