Speaker Information
Bill Moak, APR, Fellow PRSA is Chair and Associate Professor of Communication at Belhaven University. Since 2016, Bill has used his more than three decades of communication experience to help guide students as they prepare to enter the communications profession.
Starting as a rookie reporter after graduating from Ole Miss, Bill has been involved in public relations since working on a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. His first full-time PR job was working for a local Red Cross chapter, where he quickly joined PRAM (he was named Rookie of the Year) and was connected to a network of professionals who would prove crucial to his career. From then, he worked in nonprofits, associations, and in healthcare and education.
He is a SPRF Senior Practitioner and earned Accreditation in Public Relations in 1996, and in 2021 was selected for the Public Relations Society of America’s College of Fellows. Currently, he is a member of PRAM Central (where he served as president in 2022). In 2023, he was named PRAM’s Advanced Professional of the Year. He has also presided over the Mississippi Hospital Public Relations Society and the Mississippi Communication Association. He has been a member of PRSA for 33 years, in addition to leadership roles in several civic and community organizations. As a tenured faculty member at Belhaven, Bill started a student PRAM chapter, helping connect students to PR professionals. Belhaven PR majors’ work takes place in a program designed from the ground up to meet the high standards of the public relations profession, and all PR majors sit for the Certificate in Principles of Public Relations exam.
Bill and his wife Lori have two grown sons and attend Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, where he chaired the 90-member deacon body in 2022. On Sundays, he may often be found in the church’s media control room, working as a media ministry volunteer.
