Update about this monday’s show with Senyawa:
The concert will be the brand new iteration Senyawa X, thus making it part of the world premiere tour of this new project featuring Wukir Suryadi and the A.I. vocalist Xhabarabot representing Rully Shabara.
A project born both out of choice and necessity as Rully’s Schengen visa application was denied, even though he has toured here many times in the past and all of the travel was already booked. Fortunately, the duo already had Xhabarabot ready for deployment, as the next stage in their artistic development.
Xhabarabot Voice Machines are digital interfaces that generate the synthetic voice of Rully Shabara which can be used to perform and improvise “live”. Accordingly, Senyawa X is a collaboration between the organic and the synthetic, establishing a direct connection between human interaction, the raw materials of nature, and the digital world. It prompts reflection on humanity’s role within nature and our digital extensions; a tangible expression of how we amplify our natural abilities using technology.

I deeply regret to inform you that despite submitting all necessary documents and meeting every requirement for my Schengen visa application, I have been unable to secure the visa. After waiting for almost a month with my passport held at the embassy, I was unable to apply for other essential visas during this time. This delay forced me to miss a scheduled performance in Hong Kong and undergo the process of reapplying for a UK visa, leaving no adequate time to make another attempt at obtaining a Schengen visa.
I tried to reapply, but due to time constraints, it was not possible. I've reached out through multiple channels, including my networks with embassy connections, but this has also proven difficult because Indonesians must apply for the Schengen visa through an outsourced agency, VFS Global. This extra layer of bureaucracy made it almost impossible to expedite the process.
It is with deep sadness and frustration that I must inform you that I will not be able to join my bandmate, Wukir Suryadi, on the upcoming EU tour. To ensure the tour still brings the energy and spirit of Senyawa, we offer you Senyaway X.

Senyawa boldly explores the intersection of tribal and industrial music, crafting a unique sonic landscape that blends folk elements with modern genre hybrids. For over a decade, the leading Indonesian duo have been pushing boundaries with Rully Shabara's intricate vocalizations and Wukir Suryadi's unique, homemade instrumentation.
Their performances span from renowned festivals like Primavera in Barcelona to intimate venues like Café Oto in London. Senyawa’s accolades include the Green Room Award for Best Music Composition and Sound Design and the Ars Electronica Award for Digital Music and Sound.
Collaborating with esteemed artists such as Sunn0)))’s Stephen O’Malley and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Senyawa’s influence extends far beyond music. Filmmaker Vincent Moon captured their essence in the documentary Calling the New Gods. Even during the pandemic, Senyawa continued to innovate, releasing their acclaimed album Alkisah with multiple independent labels around the world as an alternative method of distribution, and earning praise from The New York Times as a beacon of the future of international music.
