How ought man to live in an age of intelligent machines? Join us on Monday evenings for discussions on literature and philosophy about Technology. The format of the classes is simple: read the assigned reading and come prepared with a short question about what you read. Register below or just show up.Ernst Jünger's The Forest Passage explores the possibility of resistance: how the independent thinker can withstand and oppose the power of the omnipresent state. No matter how extensive the technologies of surveillance become, the forest can shelter the rebel, and the rebel can strike back against tyranny. Jünger's manifesto is a defense of freedom against the pressure to conform to political manipulation and artificial consensus. A response to the European experience under Nazism, Fascism, and Communism, The Forest Passage has lessons equally relevant for today, wherever an imposed uniformity threatens to stifle liberty.
Classes are held from 5:30-6:30 pm (note the new time!) in downtown Fairhaven: 1106 Harris Ave., Suite 307. The cost of each class is a sliding scale.
