The seminar "Whither Europe?" will bring together experienced former Indian diplomats to discuss Europe’s changing political, economic, and security landscape. The panel will explore key issues such as the future of NATO and European defence, European Union, economic challenges, security concerns, and the impact of global events like the Ukraine conflict and the changing US approach towards Russia. It will also highlight opportunities for stronger India-Europe ties in trade, investment, and strategic cooperation. Amb. Gurjit Singh : Ambassador Gurjit Singh, a veteran Indian diplomat, served in the Indian Foreign Service for 37 years, promoting India`s economic, cultural, and strategic ties globally. Known for his business-friendly approach, he played a key role in strengthening India`s partnerships with Africa, ASEAN, and Germany. Post-retirement, he continues to engage in international relations as an Honorary Professor at IIT Indore and chairs the CII Task Force on Trilateral Cooperation in Africa. Amb. Gaitri I Kumar : Ambassador Gaitri Issar Kumar, a veteran Indian diplomat, served in the Indian Foreign Service from 1986 to 2022. She was India`s High Commissioner to the UK and Ambassador to the EU, Belgium, and Luxembourg, strengthening political and economic ties. She also held key positions in the MEA, including handling US-Canada relations and serving as Additional Secretary to the President of India. Amb. Jawed Ashraf : A seasoned Indian diplomat, he served in key global missions, including as High Commissioner to Singapore (2016-2020) and Ambassador to France and Monaco (2020-2024). He held pivotal roles in the MEA and PMO, advising on foreign policy, defense, and national security. An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College and IIM Ahmedabad, he brings expertise in economics and management. Amb. Satish Mehta: Amb. Mehta Dealt with the strategic sector in the office of two Prime Ministers. He is Former Envoy to Kuwait and Deputy Chief of Indian Mission in Israel. He retired as DG, ICCR.
