-Cultural Democracy – a shift in power structure in arts, community and culture
Hvem bestemmer om makt og deltakelse i kunstfeltet?
Seminaret ledes av Chrissie Tiller som inviterer til refleksjon og debatt om makt og the “shared artistic space”. Hvilke erfaringer og strukturer, samskaping og praksiser åpner for reell deltakelse og deling? Hvordan skaper vi steder med kunst- og kultur som er av, med og for befolkningen i nabolaget? Hva er erfaringene fra fire år på Gamle Munch og status på andre internasjonale modeller?
Samtalen, på engelsk, vil løfte frem idéer og erfaringer med å engasjere større deler av samfunnet i kunst og kultur.

Dr. Chrissie Tiller is a writer, thinker, advisor, practitioner, and educator who has spent her working life internationally on participatory social arts practice, in the wider context of access to culture and cultural democracy. Her work is situated in the intersection between critical pedagogy, radical theatre and political activism. Her publication “Power Up” (2017) is a standard reference for everyone committed to working collaboratively with communities in terms of developing co-creation, co-production and power sharing across Europe. In her recent dissertation “Shaping Socially Engaged Arts Practice and Critical Pedagogy in the UK arts and cultural sector” she reflects critically on a series of publications and an interdisciplinary counterhegemonic socially engaged art practices.
She argues that greater access to culture and cultural democracy demands to shift imbalances in power and authority and break down existing hierarchies within the sector. It implies creating new spaces with a more balanced and shared relationships between the arts and community, in who sets the agenda, whose stories that are told, and who the listeners,and audiences are. It also implies a redefinition of ‘culture’ as being ‘ordinary’.

På Gamle Munch møter du et mangfold av unge stemmer og kunstnere med egne verk og prosjekter - nyutviklet dans, teater, musikk, performance, visuell kunst og installasjoner.
