It's time for you to finally publish. Let's turn your Word or Google Doc and turn it into a published book (print and ebook) on every major sales platform in the world via a 2-NIGHT self-publishing workshop. By the end of the second night, you can have a fully-published book...for FREE.
If you've been sitting on a mostly-finished manuscript for a book or a bunch of old poems, now is the time to learn about self-publishing and put the easy, free, author-serving tools and services created by Draft2Digital to use and finally hit the PUBLISH button.
Carlos Velez, from Topeka's first community label Top City Records, will show you how to publish your book on all the major sales platforms, library services, and even create a print version for easy print-on-demand sales:
* Amazon
* Apple Books
* Barnes & Noble
* Kobo
* Tolino
* Overdrive
* Hoopla
* Bibliotheca
* and MORE ebook retailers/services
* Print-On-Demand (via Amazon.com and BN.com, and author copies for in-person physical sales)
SELF-PUBLISHING IS FREE and YOU KEEP 100% OF YOUR RIGHTS. There are services out there that will try to take advantage of authors and sell them expensive publishing and promotional packages for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. These are predatory, ineffective, and unnecessary. Today's reputable and effective self-publishing tools are free and do NOT take any of your rights to your story.
In this workshop, Carlos Velez will use Draft2Digital (in his biased opinion the absolute best service for self-publishing in the industry) to go through the entire process of publishing a book from scratch using his forthcoming book Wallpaper Music: An Erik Satire to show a real-life example on the projector for you to follow along while you set up your own book project. Technical Support volunteers will be available to help you with specific technical issues while you work through the process.
NIGHT 1 - Monday, November 4th, 6:30pm:
* Overview of modern self-publishing industry and best-practices
* Draft2Digital - who are they and why are they the best self-publishing service
* Top City Records - Topeka’s first community label and publisher. How TCR can (optionally) serve as the Publisher/label for your self-published book, while you still keep 100% of your rights and royalties.
* Getting started setting up your first Book project on Draft2Digital
* Overview of providing account payment information for collecting royalties
NIGHT 2 - Monday, November 11th, 6:30pm:
* Hands-on Help and Q/A
* Finish your Book project on Draft2Digital
* Submit your Book for publishing
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE WORKSHOP:
Do as much as you are able to prepare beforehand. If you get stuck, we will be able to help you more-specifically during the workshop.
* Have your manuscript finished and edited if you want to finalize publishing. Format chapter headers as Heading 1 or 2, and/or as large/centered text.Otherwise, have a mostly-ready manuscript to prepare a Book project for publishing so you can hit Publish as soon as the manuscript is ready to go.
* Bring a book cover file if you can: 1600 x 2400px or larger, JPG or PNG. www.canva.com is a free resource you can use to create book covers.
* Write a description for your book. Descriptions must be between 50 and 4,000 characters long. Do not enter email addresses, hyperlinks, prices, or promotions.
* Write an About The Author page (1 or 2 paragraphs)
* Decide on a Sale Price: $0.99 or greater, or FREE.
* Write a Dedication if desired.
* Decide on 1-5 BISAC Categories. More-specific categories are better than general ones. I.e. FICTION / Fantasy / Paranormal instead of FICTION / Fantasy / General. All BISAC categories can be found at: https://www.bisg.org/complete-bisac-subject-headings-list
