Join Tacoma Aikikai on the last Sunday of every month for trauma-informed, empowerment-based, Aikido Self-Defense!In 2024, we are hosting six self-defense workshops, on the last Sunday of January - June that can be taken as stand alone sessions or as a series to build and practice your skills. Our trauma-informed, empowerment based workshops teach awareness, boundary setting, and Aikido-based martial skills to protect yourself because you are worth defending!
Led by women/queer instructors, each session covers self-defense basics and dives deeper into one area of focus. January, February, April, and May workshops are open to women, non-binary, and LGBTQ participants. March and June sessions welcome folks of all gender orientations.

Cost
Your workshop donations support the instructors and the program itself. We believe that self-defense training should be accessible to the community. Choose the sliding scale rate that best fits your financial situation, or contact us for scholarship opportunities.

About the Instructors
Ea Murphy (she/her) is the Chief Instructor of Tacoma Aikikai with over 25 years of martial arts experience. She/they have taught self-defense both on and off the mat, including formerly with the Girl Army, a Bay Area Self-Defense collective.
Avery Miller (they/them) is a third degree brown belt in Paracombatives Ju Jutsu and certified victim advocate with years of experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence.
