Explore the heart of Black Los Angeles history with AHLA’s South L.A. Solid Chapter as we walk through Destination Crenshaw, an open-air museum along Crenshaw Boulevard dedicated to celebrating Black life, culture, and contributions.
🌟 Tour Details:
- Starting Point: The mural outside the U.S. Bank branch (5760 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90043), where we’ll discuss the intersection of Crenshaw & Slauson’s past, present, and future, and highlight the vision of Destination Crenshaw, shaped by the late community leader Nipsey Hussle and L.A. City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
- Route: We’ll walk north along Crenshaw Blvd., parallel to the Crenshaw/LAX/K Line at-grade rail, with a key stop at the mural between 54th and 51st to explore the history of Black-owned businesses along Crenshaw. While the route primarily focuses on cultural landmarks, we’ll also acknowledge the surrounding housing diversity, from apartments to bungalows.
- Final Stop: Leimert Park Plaza, where we’ll enjoy a lunch break and explore Leimert Park Village vendors, with opportunities to support local staples like Taco Mell.
