It’s time to clean our roads! The See Off Homesteaders Community Center is part of the NC DOT Adopt-A-Highway program. We are responsible for See Off Mountain Road and Becky Mountain Road. There are a minimum of 4 scheduled trash pick ups a year. Please join us on Saturday January 24 at 10:00 am for the first pick up of the year. If the weather is bad (snow, ice, heavy rain, bitter cold) we will reschedule to Saturday January 31. If we reschedule, a notice will go out a couple of days before.
We have safety vests, gloves, and orange trash bags provided by NC DOT. If you have “grabbers”, please bring. Also, bring a water bottle if you want to take water with you.
Everyone goes out in pairs for a portion of a road. It takes about 45 minutes to complete a portion. When you finish, someone will pick you up and bring you back to the community center to check out. Leave the trash bags on the side of the road. We have a team coming by afterwards to pick them up and take them to the dump.
**If you don’t want to walk the roads, we will also be cleaning the inside of the community center - mopping, wiping tables down, sprucing up the kitchen.
We ask that everyone be mindful that they are on busy roads - watch their step and watch out for cars. No need to go too far off the road. Make a note of trash that is too heavy to pick up or too far off the road. Come back with photos and stories to share, especially the oddest piece of trash you picked up!
Let us know if you have any questions!
