-OUTLAW TRAIL is in the secluded far northwest corner of the Sedona region. It is a 6.4-mile-long trail that forms a loop when connected with . You can travel in either direction, but if you go south to north, the most challenging part will be downhill, while north to south will involve an uphill climb. The trail is primarily simple dirt with a few loose rocks and solid bedrock areas. However, there is a challenging section which includes a rocky ledge with various difficulty levels. During the summer monsoon season, mud may also pose an additional challenge. Therefore, it is recommended to have a high clearance stock 4x4 vehicle. This trail is ideal for novice off-roaders who want to improve their skills by navigating these obstacles.
-CLIFFHANGER TRAIL is an easily accessible 5.5-mile trail that can be found right off Highway 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona. The trail is shaped like a "Y" and includes the "Cliffhanger" shelf road, which descends to a hiking trailhead below. It eventually finishes at the trailhead located on Red Rock Loop Road. Most of the trail can be covered in a high clearance stock vehicle running 4-HI. It is mainly comprised of hard-packed dirt with smaller rock ledges, protruding rocks, and bedrock. However, there is a challenging (and optional) section of the trail called Cliffhanger, requiring high clearance and 4 low gear. It has loose rock sections, rock ledges, and steep drop-offs on the sides of the trail. A disconnecting sway bar and rear lockers would be helpful in this section.
Overall, the trail is an excellent choice for someone getting more aggressive offroading but not quite ready for rock crawling.
