Description
On the lower reaches of the Fraser River, this small island is a great place for a quiet, easy, and fully accessible walk amidst heritage buildings and other sites along the slough. The tall cottonwood trees and surrounding wetlands are home to a variety of wildlife – from eagles and chickadees to frogs and otters. Dogs must be leashed.
• Tinmaker's Walk is 1.2 km return between Riverside and Fisher's Field picnic areas. A tree-lined route with some views of the river. Watch for warblers, chickadees and downy woodpeckers.
• Island Tip Trail is 2.4 km return from Fisher's Field Picnic Area. A walk over the George Massey Tunnel, through dunes and along the river’s edge. Island Tip offers a small sandy beach.
