About this Event
Rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements, seaweeds have a surprising range of flavours and benefits. As an added bonus, there are no toxic species to be picked on foot, growing around the coast of Britain, unlike some plants that can definitely K*ll you, allowing nervous foragers the opportunity to try new flavours without fear of poisoning! With Vicky as your guide you will leave cinfidently able to identify at least 5 common edible and delicious seaweeds, commonly found growing around the coast of Britain.
The day will also include a gentle guided wild swim, whilst taking in the beautiful scenery, with expert open water swimmming coach, Bekah Bryan. There are many benefits to wild swimming, including reduced inflammation, improved circulation, immunity and mood, boosting dopamine and serotonin levels.
Our day will start with a welcoming circle and then we shall head off to explore the rocks and pools, gathering, identifying and tasting as we go.
We shall take our harvest back to our camp and Bekah will guide you in an open water swim through the seaweed.
You will then head back up the beach to dry off and warm up around the fire, when we shall enjoy a meal cooked over the fire with seasonal wild ingredients, including, of course, seaweed.
After our food we shall enjoy some wildcrafting with our finds.
You will
L earn how to safely and sustainably identify and forage seaweeds
About the history and folklore of seaweeds
About the medicinal and modern uses of seaweeds
The laws around foraging and gathering in the UK
Be guided in a wild swim through seaweeds by open water swimming coach Bekah Bryan
