The Seaton Holme building, dating back to around 1240, has undergone numerous alterations. Initially a rectory for the Bishops of Durham until 1832, it later served as a children’s home and a hostel for impoverished and ill men during the 1900s. Unfortunately, it fell into disrepair after the Second World War. Seaton Holme, with reports of footsteps and giggling heard in empty rooms, holds the distinction of being one of the most haunted buildings in the North East.
