About this Event

Join visual artist Iwalani Kaluhiokalani, musician Slamz, and projection artists Folahan Shodipo and Menefese Kudumu-Clavell for Seaspeak, an immersive exploration of underwater sound restoration through experimental music, video installation, and speculative sonic futures.

This performance weaves together field recordings of marine environments—extinct and thriving—with innovative video design and vibrational soundscapes to reimagine lost, found, and imagined seascapes.

Audiences are invited to listen deeply, not just with their ears but with their bodies, as the performance transforms the space into an oceanic realm, celebrating the vitality and fragility of marine ecosystems. Seaspeak offers a profound connection to the rhythms of the sea and our shared vibrational bond with its ecosystems.

Iwalani and Slamz have collaborated before in 2021–2022 for Time Sensitive: Caldera as part of Iwalani’s ACTivate residency at Boston Center of the Arts .

Together, Iwalani, Folahan and Mene make up the digital video mapping group ‘Maya Waves,' having recently presented at Mark Morris Dance Center NYC with Soulskin Dance company.

Seaspeak is presented in conjunction with on view December 4–29, 2024 at Kingston Gallery.
