Seasonal Slow Hike

Indy Community Yoga invites you to join us for a slow hike in Eagle Creek Park. Every Body Welcome! Led by Michelle (she/her), we will walk three miles in about two hours with pauses along the way to explore, reflect, and discuss. We will begin and end our hike with periods of silent walking to pay attention to the trees, birds, ground, and water around us, as well as the sensations in our own bodies as we walk. At the midpoint of our hike, we'll gather to reflect on our experience and to intentionally open our senses through a guided activity. Depending on the season, we may watch birds, smell or touch flowers, or explore parts of our surroundings that are easy to overlook, like rocks or fallen leaves.

Our Slow Hikes aim not for speed or physical challenge, but for slowing down to experience the world around us. If you are looking for a longer or faster hike, or would like to chat along the way, we recommend checking out some of Indy's local hiking groups for events! If you have joined Indy Community Yoga for our mindful nature walks, these Slow Hikes are similar in spirit, but over a longer distance and with a faster pace.

Some paved, gravel, and dirt surfaces may be along different parts of the route, along with stairs or incline. No special knowledge or experience needed. Come as you are and just be yourself!

Eagle Creek Park charges a vehicle admission fee of $6 for Marion County residents ($7 for non-residents, or $1 to bike or hike in). If the entrance fee makes participating challenging for you, please contact Marissa at [email protected] after registering for the event.

We'll gather on the south deck of the building, overlooking the lake. Our route will differ each season, but all hikes will be approximately three miles and start at the Ornithology Center.

When: 2024 Slow Hikes will take place 2-4:00 p.m. on January 28, June 23, and October 27. (Join us seasonally!)

Note: We walk rain or shine, except in hazardous conditions. Please dress for the weather, with shoes appropriate for sometimes muddy or rough trails.
