SEAN KIELY is celebrating the release of his new full-length album Postcards of the Reckoning with an evening of music Friday, November 8th at Made of Leaves (195 New York Ave, Jersey City)Made of Leaves is a mixed-use performance space and floral studio at 195 New York Ave in the Jersey City Heights. The venue is down one flight of stairs. This is a BYO event. Featuring DJ Tom Gallo of Look at my Records.
Opening the show will be longtime friend and often collaborator JEFF TAYLOR, playing a solo set of his music.
Tris McCall says: "Sean Kiely writes and performs music that is gentle but stubbornly unusual — full of pivots, compositional left turns, and unexpected note and chord choices. Though he and his collaborators never sound drilled, his music is impeccably performed, evocative of folk traditions, but more often redolent of the waterfront at night and the strangeness of the Hudson County post-industrial landscape than it is of the woods. Kiely is pleasantly uncompromising: friendly and approachable, but sharp-toothed. Attitude hums and hisses in his grooves.
His realization of this sound has made him a favorite in his hometown. Since the release of Your Logo, My Logo in 2015 and It Sure Was Good in 2018, he's become a regular attraction on local stages large and small. As his reputation has grown, so has his scope — and his curiosity. Kiely’s recent music is the result of exploration and inquiry with new and varied collaborators from the folk, jazz, and pop realms. Everything that endeared this artist to Jersey City remains here, including the adventurous melodies, the radiant harmonies, the smart, sharp-minded lyrics, the distinctive combination of open-heartedness and world-wise wariness, the heartbroken confessional storytelling, the nods to classic ‘60s pop, ‘70s AM gold, and ‘80s college rock recalcitrance.” – Tris McCall
JEFF TAYLOR released his debut LP, ‘A Deeper Kind’ in Spring 2022. The album features drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, St. Vincent) and bassist Jesske Hume (Conor Oberst, Margaret Glaspy), and was produced by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile, Waxahatchee).
Together in early 2024, Taylor and Seattle producer Geoff Stanfield dropped the debut album from their new project, Farmer. Multiple tracks on 'The Color That Suits You’ feature guest vocals from Rock and Roll HOF electee Dave Matthews, including a music video for ‘Honey,’ also featuring the South African-born songwriter. The group are currently recording a full-length followup, due out in Spring 2025.
Jeff first gained notice with the independent release of Dumpster Hunter's 'Frustration in Time Travel' (2012), produced by John Siket (Blonde Redhead, Phish, Dave Matthews Band) and Steve Wall (Lucius, Mark Guiliana, Gretchen Parlato). 2014’s ‘Organelle’ EP marked Taylor’s first truly solo release and was produced by Thomas Bartlett (Taylor Swift, St. Vincent, The National).
In 2018, Taylor co-fronted distinguished composer Marike van Dijk‘s ‘Stereography Project,’ touring the United States and Europe and featuring van Dijk’s arrangements of Taylor’s songs for a 12-piece winds and string ensemble. From 2017 through 2019, Jeff wrote and recorded with the Donny McCaslin Group (David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’ band), embarking on an extensive world tour.
