In this four-day workshop we'll cover the process from dyeing materials (both silk fibers, fabrics and wool fiber that can be used in the construction of the garment) to completing a seamlessly fitted garment.Dyeing bulk materials for felting is not magic but it is magical, and it is a skill that will elevate the quality of your nunofelt work!
On the first day of the workshop I will teach you the basics of how to dye bulk materials for felting using the most light-fast and wash-fast, high quality acid dyes. We will explore how various protein fibers (superfine merino wool, silk fiber and silk fabrics) absorb the dyes differently, and will discuss how to dye solid, shaded, and variegated colors. I will teach you how to dye deep gem colors as well as pastel colors, and how to mix and blend colors for best results.
On the second day we start constructing the garment.
This sleeveless garment pattern was developed to fit very different body shapes and the felted garment will suit you flatteringly without a baggy look. You'll learn how to enlarge the pattern and adjust it to different body shapes. The workshop features a very thin wool layout, and conscious use of the directions of the fibers to achieve differential shrinkage, so we can fit the garment without any tailoring.
Marble inspired layered silk fiber and fabric surface design will be introduced.
Decoration placed on the inside of the vest makes it reversible.
Pockets can also be added to the garment.
