Seagrass: North Carolina's Hidden Habitat

Shilpa Rao is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Jessie Jarvis' Coastal Plant Ecology Lab as a part of UNCW's Integrative, Comparative, and Marine Biology program. Shilpa's love for plants began at a young age while gardening with her mother and grandmother. After studying terrestrial plants in college, she developed an interest in marine botany. Now, as a part of the Coastal Plant Ecology Lab, she studies seagrass ecology with a focus on habitat restoration. Shilpa's dissertation investigates the effects of shoalgrass on eelgrass germination in North Carolina.
