The swims chosen for this event are based on the days conditions, as such we email all the entrants 2-3 days before the event and confirm the first meeting point. Meeting at around 9 - 9.30am. This email will come through Ticket Tailor, so make sure you check your Spam folder. We've picked the following date, as it's one of the smallest tides of the year and will offer minimal water movement and maximum safety.
Unlike previous 10K Days, this year you'll have the option of entering the whole 10km or opting for the shorter 5km (2 swims) or 7.5km (3 swims) routes. If you enter the 5-7.5K Day option and decide you'd like to complete the additional distance and finish the 10km, simply talk to us on the day.
Options :
Up to 10 x 5km tickets (first 2 swims)
Up to 10 x 7.5km tickets (first 3 swims)
Up to 40 x 10km tickets (all 4 swims)
* I may adjust these numbers on request
We avoid holding mass participation events and cap our events with up to 60 entrants. We also see this event as more of an 'challenge' than a race. This cuts out mass starts, pre-race nerves and promotes a great atmosphere on the day. As we don't have a set meeting location and swims, we also minimise the chances of cancelling the event (due to the conditions).
We try and keep our events as affordable as possible. As such, we ditch all of the unnecessary paraphernalia that sometimes comes with events ie. swim caps and t-shirts. If you'd like us to bring a Sea Swim Cornwall t-shirt or swimming cap, let us know prior to the event.
Whilst St Austell isn't the most famous or well known of Cornish towns, it does offer some world-class swims. The only issue with St Austell bay is that the whole coastline faces east. Should a moderate to strong easterly wind howl in (which are quite rare), we'll relocate to either St Mawes/Roseland or the Newquay area...both within a 20-25 minute drive of St Austell.
The plan is to take in 4 swims of 2.5km. We'll also look to possibly swim 2 different routes from one of the locations/beach, as it alleviates a bit of time pressure on the day. There is no requirement to swim all 4 swims but you need to let us know prior to a swim if you're not going to participate. There is no required speed for the event, provided you're confident you can cover the distances. There is no wetsuit requirement but do ensure you check the sea temperatures in Cornwall prior to the event and ensure you're comfortable with them. TOW FLOATS You need to bring a tow float. We'll assess each swim and inform you prior to that swim whether you'll need to use it or not. In the instance of a little swell or chop for example, we may insist on tow floats to make you more visible in the water. *If you have any medical conditions that could adversely affect you in the water, you do need to bring a tow float and use it. You don't need to wear the event cap but DO NEED to wear a bright cap (not a black neoprene cap). You can wear a black neoprene cap, provided you use a tow float...
In the build up to the event there is no guarantee which swims we'll include. We may even change routes on the day. As such, we generally advise you to bring snacks, water and lunch. Don't count on cafes and shops...although you should have 2-3 days notice as to where we'll be swimming and we'll include detailed info on the event email you'll receive prior to the event. As the swim starting times depend on the speed of the group, the conditions, the water temperature etc you'll need to listen carefully to instructions on the day...generally at the start or end of each swim.
