Join the Salish Sea School and author and naturalist Maria Ruth(author of Rare Bird) in the first of The Salish Sea School's three part Speaker Series "Sea Science In Action."
Marbled Murrelets and Pigeon Guillemots are two extraordinary members of the alcid family of web-footed, surface-diving, fish-pursuing seabirds of the North Pacific Ocean. Watching and surveying these birds on the water is a thrill—a thrill that quickly becomes a challenge when they move to land to their nesting sites and seem to disappear from view. How do they do it—the murrelet out of sight and the guillemot hidden in plain sight? What tricks do they have up their sleeves? How do scientists and community scientists study these cryptic nesters? Join Maria Mudd Ruth, to learn some of the secrets of the ABCs—alcids breeding cryptically.
Join us after at Greenpoint, Washington Park to learn more about what the Salish Sea School is doing to protect Marbled Murrelets and participate in a community science survey of these amazing seabirds!
